“Will my children be emotionally scarred by the divorce?”
“How can I protect them from the emotional fallout?”
“What should I even say to them?”
These are some of the most common and heart-wrenching questions parents bring to me during divorce coaching.
And rightly so.
Because when a parent is considering divorce, the first thought on most parents’ minds isn’t about paperwork, finances, or logistics.
It’s this: “How will this affect my child?”
Parents worry about:
-Their child’s emotional and psychological wellbeing
-Changes in routines, living arrangements, and daily stability
-The potential strain on their bond and time together
-How their child might internalise blame or guilt
-Whether this will shape their child’s view on love and relationships
Many carry deep guilt, grief, and self-doubt — even when they’re doing their best to protect their kids.
Over the years, I’ve answered these questions in my one-on-one divorce therapy and coaching work.
The truth is this: The divorce itself is not going to hurt your child, but how you do it can have a lasting impact.
Divorces that are amicable and child-centered tend to have better outcomes for kids than divorces that are high conflict and highly acrimonious.
If divorce is on the cards, and you would like to protect your children from the impact of it, here is recorded webinar which I did on 26 August 2025 where I hosted a 60 minute trauma-informed masterclass: “How to Protect Your Children from the Impact of Divorce”
In this session, you’ll learn
-What research actually says about how divorce affects children long-term (and what matters more than the divorce itself)
-The most common parenting mistakes that unintentionally cause harm
-What children truly need to feel emotionally safe, secure, and seen even through separation
-What to say (and what not to say) when breaking the news to your child
-How to co-regulate and show up as your child’s emotional anchor
-You will walk away with practical tools you can use right away to protect your child’s well-being and strengthen your bond—no matter what stage of divorce you’re in.
This webinar is for any parent who is:
✔️ Considering separation or divorce
✔️ Currently going through the process
✔️ Already divorced, and wanting to support your child’s healing.
