TSS Visa Work Experience Changes Delayed: What You Need to Know

The Australian Government announced plans in May to reduce the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa work e

xperience requirement from two years to one, effective 23 November 2024. However, as of today (26 November), no legislative amendments have been made, and the two-year rule remains in effect.

During a recent meeting with the Migration Institute of Australia, the Department of Home Affairs confirmed their commitment to launching the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa before the end of 2024. This visa will replace the TSS Visa and is expected to include the one-year work experience requirement.

What This Means for Employers and Skilled Migrants

For Employers:
TSS Visa: Continue adhering to the two-year experience rule.
Plan for SID Visa: Evaluate how its streamlined processes and new occupation lists could impact your hiring strategies.
Decision-Ready Applications: Ensure all applications meet current standards to avoid delays.

For Skilled Migrants:
Current TSS Visa: Ensure you meet the two-year work experience requirement.
SID Visa Opportunities: Be proactive and stay updated on SID Visa requirements and occupation changes.
Strong Documentation: Complete and thorough applications will be critical for success during this transitional period.
