The book of Genesis primarily focuses on beginnings: the creation of the world, the origins of humanity, and the establishment of the covenant between God and the Israelites. It covers the stories of creation, the first humans, the great flood, and the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It also details the beginnings of sin, the fall of man, and God's plan of redemption.

Genesis 1 presents a structured, six-day creation account, culminating with humanity made in God’s image and given dominion over creation. Genesis 2:1–3 depicts God resting on the seventh day, establishing the Sabbath, and Genesis 2:4–17 shifts to a focused narrative of forming man, planting Eden, and giving the command about the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. The first account is cosmic and ordered; the second is intimate and human-centered.
