Botswana AgriConnect: Drought Resistant Cattle

Last year, a shipment of 162 cattle from Texas arrived in Gaborone with the aim of enhancing the ability of local breeds to withstand the effects of climate change and boost productivity.

The imported herd comprised various breeds including the American Brahman, known for their resilience against drought and diseases. By crossbreeding these cattle with the local breeds, it is anticipated that Batswana farmers will be able to increase their agricultural output and income.

Ultimately, this initiative intends to contribute towards achieving greater food security by strengthening the climate resilience of farming practices.

This transformation not only secures a more prosperous future for the agricultural sector but also plays a vital role in building a sustainable and resilient Botswana.
