Stacks and queues are simple on the surface, but interviews use them to test precision, invariants, and clean reasoning. This course sharpens your ability to model state, control order, and design efficient operations under strict constraints.From classic stack validations to monotonic stacks, undo/redo systems, and queue transformations, you’ll learn how to choose the right structure and explain your logic clearly. This interview problem tests whether a candidate can extend a standard queue to support max() in efficient time, in addition to normal enqueue and dequeue operations. The goal is to design a queue that returns the maximum element quickly without scanning the entire structure.

In interviews, this problem evaluates:

Recognizing the need for an auxiliary structure, typically a monotonic deque

Maintaining the invariant that the deque stores candidates for the maximum in decreasing order

Correctly updating the deque on enqueue (discard dominated elements) and dequeue (remove if it leaves the queue)

Explaining worst-case vs amortized complexity clearly

Correct use of two pointers to expand and shrink the window

Tracking when the window becomes valid (and when it stops being valid)
